FAQs

Is Dobro Seafood’s salmon wild?

Yes!

What’s the difference between wild and farmed salmon?

Wild salmon are naturally leaner, richer in nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, and free of artificial additives or antibiotics commonly used in farmed salmon. They also support healthier ecosystems through sustainable fishing practices.

Our sockeye salmon is wild-caught in Alaska, where it grows naturally in the ocean, eating its native diet and swimming freely in cold, clean waters. That’s what gives it its deep red color, firm texture, and rich, clean flavor.

Farmed Atlantic salmon, on the other hand, is raised in crowded pens on a controlled diet that includes things like fishmeal, soy, and food coloring to make the flesh pink. These farms can also have environmental impacts, like pollution and disease spread to wild fish populations.

I grew up understanding the difference because my father was a fisherman in Alaska. I married one, too. And for us, quality and sustainability aren’t marketing terms—they’re values. That’s why I only offer wild, Alaskan sockeye salmon—never farmed.

Is Dobro Seafood's salmon sustainably caught?

Yes! Our sockeye salmon is caught in Bristol Bay, Alaska using sustainable methods that protect both the fish and the ocean. Alaska's fisheries are carefully managed to make sure there's plenty of salmon for generations to come—and that's something we deeply care about.

How are the salmon portions packaged?

Our sockeye salmon is vacuum-sealed individually to ensure maximum freshness and convenience. This packaging also helps prevent freezer burn.

I received my order. How should I store the salmon?

  • Keep salmon frozen at 0°F (-18°C) or below until ready to use.
  • For the best texture and flavor, thaw in the refrigerator overnight (8-12 hours).
  • Quick thaw option: Place the sealed fillet in a bowl of cold water for 30-45 minutes. Do not use warm water or a microwave to thaw.
  • Once thawed, cook within 1–2 days and do not refreeze.
  • For best quality, consume within 6 months of purchase.

Can I refreeze the salmon after thawing?

While it’s safe to refreeze the salmon, we recommend cooking it immediately after thawing for the best texture and flavor.

How often should I eat sockeye salmon?

Salmon is an excellent source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids. Most dietary guidelines recommend eating fatty fish like salmon at least 2-3 times per week for optimal health benefits.
